Shri Guru Nanak Dev Sewa Society International (SGNDSSI) has been dedicated to a variety
of humanitarian, educational, environmental, and cultural initiatives, particularly in
Nepal and other regions from 2015 to 2023, emphasizing disaster relief, infrastructure
development, and community support. The detailed account of their projects and
activities includes:
2015-2016: Intensive Earthquake Response in Nepal
After the devastating April 2015 earthquake, SGNDSSI spearheaded the reconstruction of
over 70 homes and three schools, directly addressing the immediate shelter needs of the
affected communities.
Launched a comprehensive aid distribution drive, delivering food, water, blankets,
clothing, and other necessities to earthquake survivors, with about 20 volunteers
actively participating in these efforts.
Initiated projects for economic empowerment by setting up knitting sheds for women,
enabling them to produce and sell knitwear, thus providing a sustainable income source
for those affected by the earthquake.
2017: Post-Earthquake Rehabilitation and Support
Focused on restoring normalcy for the earthquake-affected families by distributing
essential kitchen utensils and cookware to rebuilt homes and temples, ensuring they
could return to their daily routines.
Continued extensive food distribution programs to support communities still recovering
from the earthquake's impacts, demonstrating a sustained commitment to the affected
populations.
Expanded educational support by continuously providing stationery, uniforms, and food to
approximately 850 students, ensuring their educational journey remained uninterrupted
despite the calamities.
2018-2019: Community Building and Cultural Preservation
Successfully completed and inaugurated a temple that had been under construction since
2016, serving as a community center and a place for spiritual gathering.
Organized a significant Nagar Kirtan from Nepal to Punjab, India, in October 2019,
fostering unity and spiritual awareness across communities while providing essential
services like food distribution.
2020-2023: Ongoing Community and Educational Support
Ensured the continuous operation of schools and temples with a focus on environmental
sustainability by initiating extensive tree planting around the newly inaugurated school
in January 2022.
Maintained support for essential community needs, including food and clothing
distribution to underserved populations, emphasizing the organization's long-term
commitment to the welfare of these communities.
In recognition of its extensive work, SGNDSSI received honors from the government,
including a Certificate of Honor for its substantial contributions to relief and
rehabilitation efforts post-natural disasters. Furthermore, during the inaugural
ceremony of Maitrisewashram by the JP Foundation in February 2017, SGNDSSI's efforts in
cultural preservation and support to affected communities were notably acknowledged.
These detailed activities underscore SGNDSSI's holistic approach to social welfare,
encompassing immediate disaster response, long-term community support, educational
empowerment, and the preservation of cultural heritage, reflecting their unwavering
commitment to societal improvement.
